Magazine Articles

Here is an article that appeared in the Banjo Newsletter.

In November of 2002, Holger Hoetzel (Max) from California ordered a Custom Top Tension style banjo from me. It was ready for delivery near the end of March 2003. Max decided he wanted to come to my shop to pick it up and get to meet me. When he arrived at my shop, he asked if he could record our conversations and take some pictures because he thought it would be fun to write an article about his visit to the Nashville area. As it turned out, he submitted the article to Banjo Newsletter and they did this cover story about my banjo work for Bela Fleck and Scott Vestal.

This article was in Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine.

This September 2003 Bluegrass Unlimited article was also written by Holger Hoetzel (Max) in July of 2003 on his second trip to the Nashville area. But this time it was more of an article about Bela Fleck's views and opinions on the Mahogany Rim banjo I built for him.

I'm on the cover of the Banjo Newsletter.

Around September of 2011, Dustin Ogdin brought his banjo to my old shop for some minor repairs. As I was repairing his banjo, Dustin told me he was interviewing Noam Pikelny for an article. I told Dustin that I built the custom neck for Noam's prewar Gibson Top Tension banjo. This prompted Dustin to ask if he could do an article about Heartland Banjo Co.

I then told Dustin that I was building a new shop in Gallatin Tn. and it would be great to get an article in Banjo Newsletter Magazine, let the banjo community know all the new things happening at Heartland Banjo Co.

In November of 2011, Dustin came to my new shop 3 or 4 times to do an interview and take a bunch of pictures of my new banjos and all the new work stations in my shop.

The final result was a great article in the February 2012 issue of Banjo Newsletter Magazine.
